Experiencing diversity together
A semester abroad in a foreign country can be incredibly exciting and broaden your horizons immensely, and asking those key questions is no exception: Will I find my way around the country? What cultural nuancesshould I be aware of? What new experiences are waiting for me? Each answer is an adventure in its own rite.
In Erfurt, the ‘Foreigners become friends’ initiative builds bridges between international students and Erfurt residents. As part of the project, foreign students are paired with mentors from the city. Citizens of all ages and social classes take part: Families and individuals, employed and unemployed people, pensioners and young people, and members of various parties and clubs.
Whether cooking or playing sports together, going on trips, having game nights or language tandems — ‘Strangers become friends’ creates space for openness, mutual understanding and fun. It doesn't matter where you come from, what language you speak or how long you are staying. You'll get to know each other in a relaxed atmosphere and perhaps even make friends for life.
