Living with a feel-good factor and character

Your home in Erfurt

Good news: in Erfurt you can live well and affordably. The student residence halls run by the Studierendenwerk Thüringen are particularly popular — the rent here is cheap and you'll meet new people straight away. If you prefer to live privately, there are plenty of shared flats and small flats in the various districts. The average cost of a room in a shared flat in Erfurt is around 370 euros, which is well below the national average of 493 euros (as of the summer semester 2025).

Popular Neighbourhoods

The Andreasvorstadt district is located in the immediate vicinity of the University of Erfurt and is home to many students, such as those in the Studierendenwerk Thüringen’s dormitories. The Ilversgehofen neighbourhood is a good alternative — it’s also not far from the university and ideal for young people who want to discover Erfurt's many facets. Johannesvorstadt and Krämpfervorstadt are also sought-after residential areas. Both districts offer moderate rents and are conveniently located for students of the Erfurt University of Applied Sciences. Whether in the middle of the Old Town, in a cosy shared flat in the Krämpfervorstadt or in a dorm near campus — in Erfurt you are guaranteed to find a place that suits you, and the excellent public transport network ensures that you get to your desired destination quickly.

Good places to look for accommodation are the well-known portals such as kleinanzeigen.de or wg-gesucht.de and, of course, the local points of contact :these locally situated companies:

I ♥ studying in Erfurt

because you can still live affordably as a student. There are many nice neighbourhoods near the University of Applied Sciences, but you can also get to the university quickly and easily from other parts of the city by bike and or the well-connected tram system. Clara is in her 4th semester of her Master's in Business Management at the Erfurt University of Applied Sciences.
